Dr. Satoru MURANAKA is the Senior Officer of the Head Quarter of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). CGIAR is the system to which the well known institutes such as International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), which carried out Green Revoluaion belongs.

Abstract
The investment in agricultural research has led substantial benefit in the improvement of crop productivity and economic growth, as demonstrated over the past several decades. And the expectation to agricultural research is getting higher. CGIAR with global network of its partners has worked to advance agricultural science and innovation to enable poor people, especially women, to better nourish their families, and improve productivity and resilience,. In the seminar, "Why agricultural research matters to achieve sustainable development now?", and "How CGIAR contributes to its progress?" will be discussed.

Brief bio of Dr. Muranaka
Dr. Satoru MURANAKA graduated from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and worked at the Arid Land Research Center, Tottori University, Japan, and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nigeira, as a plant physiologist. He has been tackling on the utilization of rich genetic resources of cowpea and yam, important regional crops of West African countries to enhance further improvement of the crops, as a researcher of JIRCAS. In 2017, he was seconded to CGIAR System Management Office in France, and work as program performance senior officer for the portfolio management and the development of result-base management system framework of CGIAR. He is also associate professor, cooperation graduate schools of University of Tsukuba.
