※1 Research students need to apply at the graduate student section to obtain a certificate.
※2 Available for students that are about to complete the program. Doctoral students can apply for an expected degree certificate only after submitting the dissertation.

2. How to apply

(1) On campus

  • a. certificate-issuing machine (Agricultural Building No.3, Student Service Center)
    Current students can obtain certificates from the certificate-issuing machine, by providing the UTAS password. If you cannot remember your password, please ask at the graduate student section (those who have already graduated cannot use the certificate-issuing machine). Certificate-issuing machine is in operation 9am-6pm, weekdays.
  • b. in person (graduate student section)
    Please make a request by filling out the application form (given at the counter). In order to receive the certificate, you will need an ID with a photo to verify your identity. If someone other than yourself is receiving the certificate, make sure that person has a letter of proxy written by you and an ID of the person receiving the certificate.

(2) Mail-in
Please send A, B, and C to the address below (4.).

  • A. letter requesting the certificate that includes the following information:
      (a) Name
      (b) Date of Birth
      (c) Entrance date and Completion date of the graduate program
      (d) Department and course
      (e) Student ID number (if you remember)
      (f) Reason for the request
      (g) Where you will be submitting the certificate to
      (h) If you have made a request before, the date of the request
      (i) Type of certificate (English or Japanese), number of certificates
      (j) Where you can be reached (phone number or E-mail address)
      (k) Other necessary information
  • B. copy of your ID
    Something that can prove your identity, such as a driver's license, passport, or health insurance card.
  • C. stamped return envelope
    The envelope must be stamped and with a return address.
    If you are applying from abroad and you cannot obtain a Japanese stamp, please use the International Replay Coupon (IRC)(HP of Japan Post, in Japanese).
    ※Please check the Universal Postal Union (UPU) website to find out about the countries issuing IRC.

3. Miscellaneous

(1) Processing times are approximate and may be delayed depending on the circumstances.

(2) There is no processing fee for certificates. However, if you do not provide a return envelope with stamps to cover the postage fee, the certificate will not be sent to you.
