Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences offers two types of courses: a Master’s Course and a Doctoral Course.
Sufficient Japanese language ability may be helpful for your study in our Graduate School.

Master’s Course

  • Application Requirements
    • Graduation or expected graduation from a Japanese university or
    • Completion or expected completion of 16 years of regular curricular studies abroad or
    • Qualifications equivalent to the undergraduate degree of the University of Tokyo
  • Degree Requirements

    A Master’s degree is awarded if the student has satisfied the following requirements: two years of registration in master’s program; acquisition of course credits required by the Graduate School; an acceptable master’s thesis written under the guidance of the supervisor; and passing the final comprehensive evaluation.

Doctoral Course

  • Application Requirements
    • Attainment or expected attainment of a master’s degree from a Japanese University or
    • Attainment or expected attainment of a master’s degree or its equivalent qualification from a university abroad or
    • Qualifications equivalent to the master’s degree of the University of Tokyo
  • Application Requirements for Doctoral course program in Veterinary Medical Sciences
    • Graduation or expected graduation from 18 years of education abroad, with specialization in veterinary medicine, medicine, or dentistry or
    • Qualifications equivalent to those listed above as recognized by the University of Tokyo
  • Degree Requirements

    A Doctoral degree is awarded if the student has satisfied the following requirements: three years of registration in doctoral program; acquisition of course credits required by the Graduate School; an acceptable doctoral thesis written under the guidance of the supervisor; and passing the final comprehensive evaluation.

    For doctoral degree in the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences of the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, it is necessary to have four years of registration and obtain larger number of course credits as compared with those required in other departments.

     Those wishing to be admitted into master’s or doctoral course program, please identify a laboratory with your research interest. First you are encouraged to contact a prospective supervisor directly via e-mail.
     If you cannot find the e-mail address of a prospective supervisor, we recommend that you e-mail the department Chief Professor which the prospective supervisor belongs to.
     Also, if you have already decided on the department with your research interest, but have not yet decided on a prospective supervisor, we also recommend that you e-mail the department Chief Professor.
