There are two programs in the Graduate School, one open to candidates for the Master’s Degree and the other for Doctoral degree. As most instructions are provided in Japanese, sufficient Japanese language ability may be helpful.

  • Application to Master's course
A Master’s degree is awarded if the student has satisfied the following requirements: two years of registration in the master’s program; acquisition of course credits required by the Graduate School; an acceptable master’s thesis written under the guidance of the supervisor; and passing the final comprehensive evaluation.

Requirements for Admission to Master's course program
    • Graduation or expected graduation from a Japanese university

For doctoral degree in the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences of the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, it is necessary to have four years of registration and obtain higher number of course credits as compared with those for other departments.

Requirements for Admission to Doctoral course program
    • Attainment or expected attainment of a master’s degree from a Japanese University
    • Attainment or expected attainment of a master’s degree or its equivalent qualification from a university abroad

  • Admission Procedure
Those wishing to be admitted into the master’s or doctoral course program must pass the Special Selective Examination for International Students held in February. Selection is based on the evaluation of the written examination (General subjects*, English (or Japanese) and Special subjects), interviews and screening of submitted documents. Most international students join the graduate school as a Research student, pass the entrance exam and then enroll for the regular course.

    * General and Special subjects vary with department. Some departments do not have the "General subjects" requirement.

Applicant must therefore first communicate with the prospective supervisor and obtain approval before submitting the application.

Note: Those who have graduated from a Japanese university are not eligible for the "Special Selective Examination of International Students." They must pass the regular entrance examination held in August.
  • Time of Admission
Admission to the master's or doctoral course is usually the beginning of the academic year in April.
