When Traveling Abroad
International students travelling outside Japan must notify the supervisor and submit one of the following forms to the Graduate Student Section, Academic Affairs Division in advance.
Forms
- Those going abroad for academic research/purposes: “Application for overseas study trip (PDF)”
* If the length of the trip is two months or more, additional procedures will be necessary. Make sure to contact the Graduate Student Section, Academic Affairs Division in advance.
* If you are participating in an overseas program such as a summer program, academic research, internship, or attending an international conference to give a presentation, you may be eligible for financial support. Application periods, eligibility, and other details are posted on the Study Abroad.
- Those going abroad for personal reasons (visiting home country, etc.):
- Master's/Doctoral/Graduate Research Students/Special Research Students:

Submission Procedures
- Before departure:
Fill out the form, obtain the seal from your supervisor on the form and submit it to the Graduate Student Section, Academic Affairs Division.
- After re-entry into Japan:
Submit the “Notification of Re-entry/Return” form to the Graduate Student Section, Academic Affairs Division along with a copy of the passport page bearing the immigration stamps that indicate the departure and entry dates (graduate students only).
Pre-departure Essentials
- Make sure to take an overseas risk management seminar before going abroad.
Online risk management seminar
- Learn about Study Abroad Insurance and take necessary measures.
