General Information

Overview of the tutor support system, including eligibility, working hours, and support procedures.

Tutors

Support for international students should mainly focus on their studies and research, and it is best achieved through collaboration between academic supervisors, relevant faculty and staff, and tutors. Specific support should be discussed and decided based on the student's needs and the situation in the laboratory. If you are unsure, one guideline is whether the student's studies or administrative procedures would be difficult without the tutor's help. According to a survey of international students, they found it helpful to receive assistance with communication, general support for their studies and research, and advice on the entrance examination system and course registration. Support with daily life, explaining information written only in Japanese, and practicing Japanese conversation were also appreciated. However, tutors should not complete administrative procedures or fill out application forms on behalf of students. Especially at the beginning, it may be helpful for tutors to send a greeting email or introduce themselves in person, so that students feel comfortable reaching out to them. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the OICE.
